Aviation 2
Human Factors, Leadership and Risk Management, Safety Management, Rule Breaking (“Violations”), Complacency, Speaking Up/Assertiveness
– from theory to practice in safety management
This training will be held in English.
About this course:
This training will be held in English!
Effective safety in aviation requires more than just procedures – it thrives on leadership behaviour, clear responsibilities and a sound understanding of human factors.
Course objective
In this course, we combine leadership behaviour and responsibilities, aviation safety risk management and the concept of practical deviation to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
A key component is a practical group exercise in which participants apply the entire safety risk management process. Important factors such as violations, assertiveness and complacency are analysed in order to identify risks at an early stage, improve decision-making and promote safety-related behaviour in the long term.
Course content
- Exchange of experiences with other participants
- Exercising effective leadership and clarifying roles within safety management
- Systematic identification, assessment and control of risks
- Human factors and their direct impact on safety-related decisions
- Recognising and counteracting ‘practical drift’
- Implementing safety theory in specific operational measures
- Deliberate circumvention of rules (‘violations’) and the reasons for such behaviour, illustrated with examples from aviation
- Causes for lack of assertiveness (“speaking up”) in dangerous situations and suggestions for strengthening safety-promoting behaviour
- Dangers of complacency in aviation, recognizing and counteracting of “practical drift”
The course will be conducted in a balanced mix of presenting scientific based information and case examples as well as giving participants the opportunity to introduce and discuss their own professional experiences and engage in practical and theoretical group exercises.
